TeleHealth Therapy

No one has to tell you we are in a pandemic age. Although we now have at least three viable vaccine therapies we still are not on top of this highly communicable health threat and its emerging variants. Therefore we must continue to utilize the safest and most practical methods to conduct our professions. Dr. Eglen is located in the Indianapolis area, and the connectedness of the internet allows you to interact as though you are in an office with him. No worries – we’ve got you covered with teletherapy. We do have some suggestions, even recommendations, we would like to give you for the best possible experience.

  1. The software we are using is 100% HIPPA compliant. That basically means, if properly used, there is very little chance it isn’t the most secure system available. Our system does not require you to download an application thus mitigating the possibility of introducing a virus to your system.

  2. In order to ensure the safety, security, and confidentiality of your telehealth session, we would ask that you do not record your sessions either thru video or audio means. This includes taking pictures of the screen or using a screen capture during the session.

  3. We suggest that if you haven’t checked lately that you do so after reading our website and make certain that you have the latest (most up-to-date) version of whatever browser you use. That could include Microsoft Edge, Apple’s Chrome, the mobile Safari, or Firefox.

  4. Depending upon your comfort level you can use your computer’s built-in speakers and microphone, or you might want to purchase separate headphones possibly with a microphone attached. This will add just a bit more privacy if anyone else is within hearing distance (which they should not be).

  5. Our final recommendation is to have your phone system checked to make certain you have good upload and download speeds and also adequate

bandwidth so there is little danger of dropout or locking up. You want a secure and strong WiFi signal.

Meet Jan Eglen

Jan Alan Eglen, Ph.D., HSPP, ABPP

Hello! I’m Dr. Jan Alan Eglen.

My life and professional experiences cover an extraordinary range of activities. Immediately after graduating with my first MS, I worked on the Manned Orbiting Laboratory Space Program in California. I was an engineer/scientist specializing in human factors in the Crew Requirements Group, meaning I had almost daily contact with military astronauts. In the early days of manned space flight, there were only 9 psychologists in this group and there was a tremendous opportunity for a wide range of exploration. I helped develop the first constant wear garments astronauts wear when not in their spacesuits, and the behavioral routines for using the first real toilet in space. (Sorry Howard on Big Bang Theory – you weren’t even born when we built it!) Acting as the onsite physiologist/first aid for the first underwater weightless simulations in a spacesuit, I helped develop the device that weighs our astronauts while in space and worked with the MRE group (meals ready to eat) to develop the first foods for long-duration flights.

After leaving the space program, I started a company in Indiana that built the first recreational hovercraft and drones. One of my hovercrafts was chosen as the “1974 Neiman Marcus His and Her Gifts of the Year”. The drones were some of the very first produced in the US for NASA, Army, Navy, Canadian National Armed Sources, and Weather Service; this resulted in the development and production of the first portable launching systems for the small craft. As a consultant for Brunswick Corporation, I also helped develop the technology for creating the Air Hockey game.

I am a graduate of Indiana State University with a BA in pre-medicine, an MS in psychology, a second MS in Life Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology.  After interning at the VA Medical Center in Danville, Illinois, I was then partner/president in one of the largest private practices in Indiana which grew to 9 offices!

My specialties are in individual therapy, neuropsychology, assessment, and as an expert witness in approximately 75 hearings and trials. Being a Licensed HSPP (Health Service Provider in Psychology) psychologist since 1986 and a member of the National Register, the Indiana Psychological Association, and the American Psychological Association, I hold the highest board certification in counseling psychology in the US. Recent work includes serving as a National Examiner and National Secretary for the Academy of Counseling Psychology ABPP Board.

I look forward to meeting you!
